The Loita trek is the trip that changes most of our clients. It's not the hardest hike we run, and it doesn't summit anything. But every group we send out comes back quieter, in a good way.
The Loita Hills sit east of the Maasai Mara, and they're the spiritual home of the Loita Maasai — particularly the laibons (ritual leaders). There are no paved roads in the area. Travel is on foot, on donkey, or not at all.
We work with the Iltepes Community Trust. Our trek fees go through the trust to fund schools and water projects. Each group is hosted by community elders who walk with you, eat with you, and teach you. Donkeys carry the heavy bags.
Days are 15 – 18 km — not big distances, but you'll move slower than you expect because the conversation is the whole point. Evenings are at manyattas, or in bush camps set up by our crew. Food is mostly traditional with adaptations for Western stomachs.
Bring an open mind. Bring respect. Don't bring drone footage ambitions. This isn't a National Geographic shoot — it's a conversation across cultures, and the value is in the conversation.
